Rinjani Trail Run 2026 Ready to Be Held, NTB Targets Economic and Global Tourism Impact

Pojok NTB — The international Rinjani Trail Run 2026, scheduled for May 1–3, is expected to draw strong enthusiasm, including from overseas participants, a senior regional tourism official said.

Ahmad Nur Aulia, head of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, said preparations for the event, to be held around Mount Rinjani, are progressing steadily. Key locations, including Sembalun and areas within the national park, have been declared ready to welcome runners.

“In principle, all processes are running well. Sembalun and the national park area are ready to host the Rinjani Trail Run,” he said in a recent interview.

The event has been classified as an international competition, with participants expected from more than 10 countries. The presence of foreign runners is seen as boosting NTB’s global tourism profile.

“With an international event in our region, it will certainly strengthen the exposure and global image of NTB tourism,” he said.

Beyond tourism promotion, Ahmad Nur Aulia emphasized the importance of generating a multiplier effect for the local economy. He expressed hope that communities, particularly those involved in the tourism sector, will benefit from the event.

“We aim to build an inclusive economic ecosystem. All stakeholders can be involved and feel the impact, from tourism operators to communities around the venue,” he said.

The regional government is also encouraging integration of the event with other sectors, including extended travel packages for participants and the promotion of gastronomy as an additional attraction. NTB is seen as having strong potential to develop culinary-based tourism.

In addition, international cooperation is being explored, including with Japan. The collaboration is expected to extend beyond tourism to areas such as investment, labor, and education.

“Going forward, we hope to create synergies, including opening opportunities to connect the Japanese tourism market with NTB,” he added.

With a focus on gastronomy and tourism, the Rinjani Trail Run 2026 is expected to serve not only as a sporting event but also as a strategic momentum to strengthen NTB’s position as a leading international destination based on nature, culture, and cuisine.
