World Runners Start Arriving, Rinjani 100 2026 is Ready to be Held

Pojok NTB — Hundreds of runners from across the world have begun arriving on the Indonesian island of Lombok ahead of the Rinjani 100, an international ultra trail race set to take place from May 1–3, organizers said.

Since Wednesday, participants have been seen arriving at Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport, with around 200 runners recorded as of Thursday. Athletes have travelled from regions including Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, as well as several Indonesian cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya.

Event organizers said early arrivals are largely competitors in the longer-distance categories, including 162 km, 100 km and 60 km races, which are considered among the most demanding. The 36 km category — the largest by participation — is expected to see most of its runners arrive closer to the weekend, in line with its Saturday night start schedule.

Most participants are heading to Sembalun, a highland area on the slopes of Mount Rinjani that serves as the main hub for the event. Peak arrivals are anticipated on Friday and Saturday.

“This is my first time joining an event like this. I’m very excited to run in the Rinjani area, which is known for its natural beauty,” said Daniel Meiza, a runner from Pekanbaru who will compete in the 36 km category.

Local authorities and organizers have arranged transportation services, including public and private shuttles, and coordinated with airport officials to assist incoming participants.

Officials from the West Nusa Tenggara Tourism Office have also been present at the airport to welcome runners, aiming to provide a positive first impression for international visitors.

The Rinjani 100 is expected to draw participants from multiple countries and is seen as a key event to promote sports tourism in the region.
